A Week of Sucess!

The kids just finished up their first week of public school. They have all made the transition quite smoothly. I have really enjoyed having some time to myself. I can't remember the last time my house was this clean an organized. I love them and miss them, but it has been really good for me to have some quiet time for myself. I don't know how I ever did it before.

Lauren is blossoming right before my eyes! She has made a few friends already. Despite her reservations about school she has come home each day with a big grin on her face. She has had her first math and spelling test at school and she did great. She is normally pretty quiet at home unless she is arguing with someone....but this week she has come home and talked my ear off about everything that went on during her day. It's fun that she wants to tell me all about it.

All of the kids are disappointed it is the weekend....they are ready for Monday already! Corben, Hayden, and Logen already have new friends in their classes. Corben is moving right along. Hayden (surprisingly) feels like she is "the good kid" in her class. Figures....that kid gives me a hard time at home but goes to school and is the teacher's pet! I guess I'll get the whole scoop at parent-teacher conferences.

Logen was great all week, but had a note sent home that he was talking too much today and not listening to directions. I cut him off all video games tonight, and he was not too happy about that. I doubt he will have any more trouble....he's just feeling out his boundaries. I don't think that he has much love for his teacher....which makes me happy that I'm still the #1 woman in his life. LOL

Check it out! I'm getting crafty!

I found the idea for these in Family Fun magazine. They are placemats for the kids to use at breakfast and dinner. Each of them has a checklist of the things they need to get done the night before and the morning of school. I just picked up a pack of matching themed papers and scrapbooking accessories and went to town gluing stuff down. I took them to the local office place and had each one laminated and attached a dry erase marker to each one with some velcro. I can't wait for the kids to use them. They have been following a checklist all week, but it is on paper. These just seem so cute and fun. A great way to start the day!

Back to School....for the first time!

Yesterday the kids had their very first day of public school. They all were up bright and early and ready to go. They all had the first day jitters, but they were excited to get the year started.


Lauren was the first one to start her day. School starts an hour earlier for her. It was still dark when she got on the bus. She is at a campus just for 6th graders. Her school counselor gave her a placement test when we registered, and she did very well. She is in some pre-ap classes to give her a little bit of a challenge. She is a good sweet girl and I am looking forward to her making some new friends and having some big accomplishments. When she got home she just couldn't quit talking! She was so excited about her day. Things went smoothly for her and she was happy to report that she had no trouble getting her locker to open!



Corben, Logen, and Hayden are all at the elementary school together. They were so excited! They were disappointed that their bus was late...they were ready to get their day rolling!


Hayden is in the 3rd grade. She LOVES her teacher. I think she is pretty great too. Hayden is so outgoing that she already has a few friends. She had a really great day.

Corben is getting a hang of things. He likes his new teachers too. He said he needs to learn how to play "wall ball" like the rest of the boys at recess. He had a really good first day and was ready for day two.

Logen had no trouble going off to school, and he came running off the bus in the afternoon to tell me all about his day. It was so fun to hear him yell "Mmmmoooooommmmmmmyyyyy!! He thinks his teacher is a little mean but a little nice too. He told me she is mean because she made him do work....I told him he should get used to that! He had a smiley face in his folder to let me know he was a good boy (but I already knew that!) He spent all evening telling me about everything he did.

I think that their first day went really well. I had a great day as well. I missed them. My house was soooo quiet with just the baby here. I got so much accomplished without so many people underfoot. The house feels so clean and organized. It was exciting to have them tell me all about their day when they got home, but it made me sad to know I missed out on so much. One of the things I liked best about homeschooling was being there for all of their accomplishments. I will definitely miss that....
